School’s great! Quizzes and assignments pouring in every other day, and it can get really blurry with so many things happening at the same time. But guess what. I love it! It’s great to get my brain active again, great to be in touch with the real world.

The biggest blessings have been B, V and Y. I love them to bits. Perhaps it might not be the same for them, but to me they’re probably the best group of friends I’ve ever had, and there’s no way I’d trade them for anything else in the world. It’s just that inexplicable attachment we’ve developed so quickly in this short time, even though the way in which we crossed paths was kind of random. Without them, I think I’d be really lost. There’d be nothing to look forward to during lunches and breaks, no reason to come to school early even if there’re no lessons till later in the day.

And waffles & ice cream just would never be the same again (:

So this is how it all begins, right here right now. From RJ to SIM, call it strange. All it’s going to do is make me be the bestest I can be – for myself, together with them. 4.0 all the way, always. (:

MPS at Boon Lay takes up my entire Monday evenings, and I usually only get home past midnight. It can be an utterly depressing activity, listening to residents’ problems and sometimes having to be on the receiving end of their angry tirades. And yet, it’s very pressurising when you realise that everything you do (or don’t do) could very well make or break their lives. Even for cases you feel might be illegitimate, there’s no saying that the resident you’re dealing with could end up living on the streets simply because you were judgemental, omitted certain information, or just felt too tired to care about proper phrasing in your drafts.

It’s just not your typical community service, volunteer-and-feel-good-about-it kind of thing. You come face to face with people with real issues, and if they can be desperate enough to make their way down to the session it better mean you have to be desperate enough to offer of yourself in whatever way possible.

The only reason why I am still making this commitment is because if we don’t help, I don’t think there’re many others who will. People can say MPS is farcical and ineffective, but let’s just say that they’ll never really understand till they’re physically involved. Yes, there’s a limit to how far our efforts may go in helping our residents, but if this is the only system that’s able to rise up and bear the responsibility, it deserves every bit of support and respect. I now appreciate our leaders so much more, not because I’m part of the Young PAP and feel politically-inclined in any way, but because I realise how heavy their responsibilities are, and how many people’s hopes and dreams lie squarely upon their shoulders. It takes a great deal of courage and heart, because contrary to what we think, politics goes way beyond recognition and pay – it’s about the people. And not just one or two, but tens of thousands of people. If mere common sense doesn’t jolt you, eventually your conscience will.

Okay so it’s getting rather busy; taking into account hockey training, the ongoing u21 and soon, floorball. Not forgetting the Tech65 gang whom I’ve had to neglect for a few weeks now.

But these past few weeks have been filled with a rush of freshness I’ve never felt so strongly before, and I sure hope it’ll continue for a long while more (:

Above all, I thank God for giving me a chance at these experiences, and for giving me energy and perspective to face each new day!

P.S. After an arduous wait, the Archos 9 pctablet is finally available here in Singapore! Tripped down to Sim Lim last weekend to take a look. Will attempt an unboxing video once I get my set
